Little Black Book Online

Our Bird Vote animation has been featured on the front page of 'Little Black Book' under the category 'Too hot to miss'. Can't argue with that.

You decide...

On the 7th May 2015, voting for the most important decision of our generation took place. Yes, that's right, it was the day you could decide who would be the UK's national Bird.

Here's an animation we made combining the GE2015 and BirdVote2015.

I hope you all voted.

New commercial

This week we managed to catch the last 2 days of sun before the summer ended and it started to rain. Lucky really as we're filming a new summer ad! It's a new project that we're working on with Kode Media and Belafonte.

Kode are producing it, we are the animation directors and Belfonte are the live action directors. So a very nice team indeed. It's going to be a combination of live action mixed with lovingly hand drawn animation.

We're now into post-production when the animation magic can begin!

Here are some behind the scenes photos from the shoot:

Newest additions to Kode!

We've just recently joined the Kode Media team!

Papery leftovers: Castle

Slightly larger than we usually make things, but still pretty small... This paper castle is about 10cm tall, including the turrets.

Papery leftovers: Rocket

Get ready for blast off! This paper rocket is around 10cm high and the rivets are 1mm. Fiddley.

Papery leftovers: Submarine

Quite often we have to make new pieces for projects that we're pitching on. Here are a few leftovers from a pitch that didn't go ahead. We like how they turned out so wanted to share them.

We heart light painting

We decided to try out some light painting. It's brilliantly addictive when you start.

Once we'd figured out  how to make static light painted images, we moved on to animated ones!

Potted paper paradise

We are working on crafting some paper landscapes at the moment too. These pieces are inspired by traditional Chinese pen-jing, literally 'potted landscape'. Each landscape has two components: mountains and water, or shan-shui. Each shan-shui landscape is its own world. Not a representation. An actual world. In a pot.

We made them out of paper because we like paper. And because paper is cheap, disposable and everyday: perfect for creating possibility, mystery and subtlety.

There's lots more to be done on these little guys so we'll be updating more soon! Here are some making of photos to look at in the meantime:

Paradise Mansions is open for business!

Here are parts 1 and 2 of our animated noir Vine car chase.

Drive, she said. Just drive. Well, here I am. Driving.

I picked up a tail 'bout 38 miles from Bernie's diner. Now what?

Go paper car, go!

We've Vined! It's a Vine! A vehemently vibrant Vine.

It's a paper car being made and then driving off. Nice huh.

An animated extract of 'When Corden Met Barlow'

There was this program about James Corden meeting Gary Barlow. It was called When Corden Met Barlow.

Anyway. Charlie Brooker said it was, 'like watching an episode of The Royle Family, or a Creature Comforts animation before they put the plasticine in'.

That's a good idea, we thought. We're more paper than plasticine though.

Directed and animated by Catfish Collective. Live action shot by Belafonte.

Swing a cat

Here's a test we did to see what a fat cat looks like spinning round.

A nice and simple 12-image turnaround, shot on 2s.
